Never done outdoor climbing before? Book a session with Eddy Young for one of the best introductory courses for outdoor climbing. Qualified for over 2 decades and running Dorset climbing courses since 2006, by the end of the course you’ll have enough climbing knowledge and techniques that you should be ready for some more challenging routes. You’ll know about the different equipment required for outdoor climbing, how to tie climbing knots correctly, how to belay and communication skills when required during a climb. Climbing tips and equipment
Make sure you have the correct gear with you for your climb; rucksack, water, a warm jacket, hat, waterproof clothing, food, helmet, harness, and climbing shoes. Some items are provided but best to bring equipment with you just in case.
Some key information you must make sure you follow for a safe climbing experience:
- You must be alert and aware of other climbers around you so as not to cause any problems for others or yourself.
- You must make sure you have the correct equipment.
- Safety check all of your ropes, belay device and harness before you begin your climb.
- Do not push yourself past your own limits. Stay within your comfort zone and stick to what you know.
If your child would like to get into outdoor climbing or is experienced in leading indoor climbs, book a session with our fully qualified instructors. We can provide training for children from 8 years old. They will be sure to have a great taster to climbing outside and cover more such as:
